Pam For The Glam

Hello, gorgeous people! I waited until I got seven new shades to blog about my current favorite lippy brand so that I have enough swatches and to try them out before I gave you a mini review. If you're thinking of buying any of these shades, I hope this post will help you. For the Colourpop Ultramatte, the newest additions to my growing collection are Creeper, Rooch, Chi, Clueless, and Cheap Thrills and for the Ultrametallics are Zebra and Man Eater.

Creeper is a true red that gives you that classic red lip look that goes well with perfectly lined but minimally done eyes. This is a wonderful red matte to use in the famous Parisian look that suits just about everybody. Rooch and Chi are actually part of Kae Pop Karreuche x Colourpop Collection, a collaboration with Karreuche Tran that reflects her everyday glam style. The three lippies in this line are namely Kae (which I've featured on my last Colourpop blog), Rooch, and Chi. They are all matte and are on the brown/ warm side. Rooch is the darkest of the bunch. An almost brown with a hint of red lipstick. It is definitely a bold color and may seem too unnerving to wear for those who prefer safe colors but I personally think it's a beautiful color. For those going for a strong, or even goth look, this is a wonderful dark red. Tip: When you feel intimidated by a lip color, wear it around the house until you get used to it. I find that a big part of how the product looks on you is how confident you feel about wearing it. Play around with it. It's makeup. Have fun! Challenge yourself every now and then to move out of your comfort zone. Rooch is a vampy red that may look too dark to pull off but once you figure out  how to wear these bold lips, it's a game changer. I like softly smoking my eyes and contouring with this lippy. Chi is currently my favorite nude. It looks lovely when used with a dramatic cut crease or earthy smokey eyes. Clueless is a soft innocent pink and will work well with both light and dramatic eye makeup. This is a great everyday pink. It's a versatile nude pink that you can wear with any look. Cheap Thrills reminds me of Colourpop Stingraye and Lumiere 2. It's the tiniest bit more purple than both colors. It works best with plum or pink themed makeup and is subtle enough to be used during the day. But hey, if you love lippies as much as I do, there are no day or night lippies. There are only lippies you choose to rock for that very moment.

In general, Ultramattes can be very drying. You will definitely need to prep your lips before using them and moisturize  after. I just love the sexy true matte effect these lippies give and the fact that they are practically unscented is a plus. They last through the day and are budge proof except when you've eaten something greasy.  :)

The Ultramettalics are such great additions to the Colourpop family. I own other brands that are metallics but these lippies are SERIOUSLY metallic and opaque. Zebra is a darker brown and bronze than Man Eater which is more peach and gold. They are easy to apply and look gorgeous with either the matte or the dewy highlighted look. The one thing I don't like about these metallics is the scent and taste. I find that even with different brands, it usually has that faint chemical smell similar to lacquer and ever so slightly bitter. I also have this experience with LaSplash in Ghoulish. It basically smells like paint. I get this even with my Estee Lauder Tiger Eye, even with the added fragrance. It's not a deal breaker. If you want opaque metallic lips these are nice. You should probably hold off on the kisses, though, when you 're wearing them. They aren't as budge proof, but they are also not as drying as the Ultramatte line.

One improvement that could be made with these lippies is to keep the Colourpop labels from fading. I'm currently using only mattes and metallics so it's fairly easy to tell them apart. I imagine it would be a bit harder when you add satins in the mix. You would need to look at the bottom sticker to be able to tell. Hopefully they're still there. I'd advise you to reinforce the sticker with tape once they start to peel off. Again, not a deal breaker but rather, a pet peeve for OC me. I love labels and I like being to tell apart products from each other. Hopefully, they do manage to take care of this disappearing label problem in the future.

So there you have it, my Colourpop lippy additions. If you're looking for these shades and planning a purchase, I hope this post was helpful. Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and I hope you have a nice day! May the glam be with you! :)

So today I decided to avail of the July 2016 promo from Maybelline which gives you around 200 pesos of savings for each palette. I've seen these palettes online and I wanted to try them for my blog. I am a fan of a lot of Maybelline products and I figured this month's sale is the best time to check them out.

One of the things I like about the products is the palette guide that comes with each of them. It shows you each shadow with their names and how to use them in quads, trios, and duos. The guide will basically tell you how to use the colors in groups and which colors work well together. The packaging material is pretty standard and quite sturdy, I think Maybelline is pretty consistent in this department. I swatched them on my arm and this is how they look on my skin (I am matched as NC40 in MAC).

The Blushed Nudes Swatches

The Nudes Swatches

You get a fun mix of neutral shimmers and matts. The pigmentation and smoothness for each eyeshadow varies so you might need to build up some of them to get the color payoff you want. Some of the shadows look a bit too similar to each other but I suppose, with the price, it's still a good deal. They actually remind me of my Clinique eyeshadows.

Now, this is my personal experience and I hope it serves as a reminder to you when you buy ANY product--- always ask to see the palette outside the box. If you are definitely buying, ask to open it and look at each eyeshadow up close. Hold it up close under good lighting. I was in such a hurry that I forgot to do this and got a "seemingly" swatched palette. Now, I'm using the term "seemingly" because I can't truly be certain, but three of the shadows looked disturbed--- as a new pot would when first swatched. They don't look used but they looked swatched. Examine a new pot and you know that a machine-pressed weave or embossed grain can be seen when it hasn't been touched. Another peculiar thing was the missing protective sheet. One palette had one but the other did not. Both were actually sealed but what's inside the palettes seemed inconsistent enough to mention. Now, I think what may have happened was an unintentional mistake or even a factory packaging error. I can't be sure but I just want to tell you about the peculiar experience so you will remember to check each purchase before buying anything. I don't plan to return the palette because the palette was, in fact, sealed and I really don't feel like making another trip to the store for a palette I bought on sale. I am still going to disinfect it though, just to be on the safe side. I would encourage you to examine any product you buy, regardless of the brand, to be sure you are getting exactly what you want.

I think these palettes can potentially create beautiful, smokey, and neutral looks and it definitely doesn't hurt that they're on sale. I can't wait to try them on my next motd. I'm actually planning to blog about makeup looks using only Maybelline products soon and I might use these palettes for that.

I hope you found this blog helpful if you're considering a Maybelline purchase or availing of this month's promo. May the glam always be with you! :)

My latest lippy obsession is the Ultramatte line from Colourpop. The colors are vivid, long lasting, and as matte as lippies can get--- a combination of qualities I don't get from drugstore brands. They are also a lot more affordable than the MAC matte lippies I fancy. My first colourpop purchase was Lumiere 2 and it was quickly followed by Limbo. I also bought Lasplash in Ghoulish but didn't like it as much because of the smell and feel on my lips. I've gotten nine more liquid lipsticks  from Colourpop and I can't wait to try more of their colors. You can get similar shades but none of them ever look the same and each one is beautiful in its own way.

I'm really excited to try the other colors in the Colourpop Ultramatte line. I hope the swatches and makeup looks I did will help you choose that special lippy for just for you--- in case you were wondering how some of the featured shades looked ( For reference, I am NC40 in MAC). The colors do look different in the tube, than when swatched on the arm, or when applied on the lips. If you want to try shades that are a bit on the wild side, like say--- purple or even dark brown, you really ought to take a look at their lippies before splurging on their expensive counterparts. They have really made a wonderful collection of colors that fit the bold, sweet, conservative, or classic moods that strike us. Routines can be boring, but our motds--- particularly lipsticks don't have to be. Say yes to these lippies and just have fun. :)

Thanks for reading and I hope you likes the swatches. May the glam be with you! :)

So I finally decided to do a DIY project I've seen on so many blogs and videos online--- the sushi mat brush roll. I wanted to make one specifically for my eye makeup brushes because I hate rummaging through my jars and kits for my blending, crease, and shadow brushes. I like protecting my makeup tools from dust otherwise all that dirt's gonna end up on my face and will defeat the purpose of my regular brush cleaning. Hello, breakouts and allergies!

For this project, I simply used the following items--- 1. A sushi mat, 2. black elastic, 3. black ribbon, 4. A cutter, and 5. my trusty glue gun. Read on if you want to know how I made my version of this popular DIY project.

1. Lay out your sushi mat and measure out some black elastic at least twice the mat's length.

2. Choose where in the mat you want the brush bands to be. I decided to put mine in the middle to make a single line come together with the ribbon for holding the brush roll once it's finished. You can place it anywhere but I like seeing a single line at the back once the mat's rolled up.  If the bamboo sticks are tightly bound together, create the needed gap by using a cutter. Insert at least 2 inches of the elastic into the mat's edge.

3. Use a glue gun to secure the end of the elastic at behind the mat or the portion which will not hold the brushes.

4. Using the brushes you intend to put in the roll as your guide for slack and tension, weave through the mat until you get enough loops to hold your tools. Make them snug enough to hold the brushes in place but not overly taught. This will ensure that the mat will stay flat when laid out. Regarding the spacing, three was my magic number with my eye brushes. Three sticks for the loop over and three for the space between each loop. It will depend on how big you brushes are. Secure the end of the elastic at the back as shown on step 3 only this time, leave the mat's last 2 sticks at the edge free for the ribbon that's going to hold the mat when rolled up. You will need at least 15 inches of ribbon, depending on how thick your roll's going to be with the brushes inside and how big you want your bow to be. I like putting the ribbon at the edge so I have the option of making a loop and hanging it up.

5. Cover the elastic at the back with a strip of ribbon to create a finished look.

Et voíla! You have your very own brush roll made with a sushi mat!

I hope you found this blog helpful and enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making this project. May the glam always be with you! :)

I would often grimace when the brushes I put outside my vanity table's drawers get a film of dust over them- especially when I just washed them. I'm so allergic to dust that it causes me to break out in hives and makes my nose runny. I try to minimize my exposure by damp dusting and securing some of my brushes inside drawers encased in their brush guards and by washing them regularly.

However, keeping them inside the vanity's drawers cocooned in their guards makes it extra hard to find them and to tell them apart. I have a favorite pencil brush that I use to smoke out my liner and it takes a few tries because the brush guard's mesh obscures the brush head's appearance. I decided to look for containers online so I can finally put them on top of the table and immediately see and use the brushes I need without having to worry about them getting dusty.

Some sold the dust free acrylic brush holders for 50 dollars per case and some for 26 but the cheaper ones were out of stock so I decided to go down the DIY path for my predicament.

I got three generic candy/pasta jars and put in some acrylic crystal fillers and voìla--- Instant brush holders that keep dust away. Each jar costs about 5 dollars each and the crystals around 2 dollars. I spent 26 dollars for all three jars including the crystals. You can find candy/pasta jars at any store selling kitchen stuff and the crystals at any place selling home decor. You can also use grain, marbles, and stones. I just really liked how the crystals look so much like pink and clear ice. I simply washed the jars and the crystals with dish soap, dried them and added my brushes. They look way better than the acrylic ones I was planning to buy and they blend seemlessly in my vanity setup.

I would recommend this over the acrylic organizers available because they look better and they are a lot cheaper than the acrylic ones. So if you want to save some cash or just feel like being creative, give this DIY project a try.

May the glam be with you!
